About Surfing Queensland
Committed to Queensland Surfing
Surfing Queensland is the recognised not-for-profit peak State body of a National Association entrusted and committed to the development of the sport of surfing and the education of the general public on surf safety and surf survival.
Our Mission
Our mission is to develop the sport of surfing in Queensland to its maximum potential through the delivery to all surfing ability levels, of quality professional events, surf coaching and education programs.
We are recognised and supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation Queensland who share in our mission to develop sport and increase participation levels in sport.
Surfing Event Management
Surfing Queensland has a professional events management department who coordinate and deliver surfing events almost every weekend of the year. Surfing Queensland is currently responsible for managing two World Tour Events these being the Quiksilver Pro and the Roxy Pro. We also manage the Hurley Pro Junior, Oakley Pro Junior, Billabong Occy Grom Comp, Queensland Championship Circuit, Rip Curl MP Classic and many more. These are some of the bigger contests, we are also responsible for the many amateur events and circuits held in Queensland.
Surf Schools
Surfing Queensland has a surf school system with over 20 affiliated surf schools operating on beaches from Coolangatta to Mackay. Our High Performance department boasts Australia's most respected elite level surfing coach and a stable of elite surfers including World Championship Tour surfers Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson. These high performance programs are driven from the Coaching and High Performance unit based on the Gold Coast.
Education
Surfing Queensland conducts regular coaching, judging and surf survival courses, programs and updating seminars. Hundreds of affiliated surf coaches and judges are based in Queensland and the State is well represented at the international level.
Membership
Surfing Queensland has over 4000 affilated members and hundreds of direct financial members. Membership is not confined to competitive surfers, rather, Surfing Queensland's membership structure provides something for all sectors of the surfing community ranging from interested spectators to WCT competitors.
Boardriding Clubs
Over 30 boardriders clubs are affilited to Surfing Queensland. Clubs represent the grass roots level of the sporting framework catering to all surfcraft such as specialised clubs in; bodyboarding, SUP, longboarding and shortboards. Most Queensland boardriders clubs have an open membership policy and encourage new members to participate in either a social or competitive capacity.
Surfing Queensland was established in 1964 and since this time has developed into a thriving sporting association committed to the development of this great sport.
