Countdown On To Rush Surf Queensland State Junior Surfing Titles!
24/8/2010
WITH less than a month to go before the state’s premier junior surfing series kicks off, Queensland’s most promising up-and-coming male and female surfers are gearing up for the prestigious 2010 Rush Surf Queensland State Junior Titles.
The Rush Surf Queensland State Junior Titles is a two-event series providing the exclusive qualification pathway for the state’s elite level U/18 boys/girls and U/16 boys/girls vying for selection in Queensland’s surfing team set to compete at the Australian Titles on Phillip Island (Victoria) in November.
Kicking off on the Gold Coast on September 4-5 and concluding on the Sunshine Coast on October 9-10, the series is set to attract some of the biggest names in the Australian junior surfing ranks.
With the likes of Brodie and Amiya Doyle (Coolangatta, Qld), Eli Steele (Caloundra, Qld) Kai Hing (Wurtulla, Qld) and Noa Deane (Coolangatta, Qld) just some of the big name up-and-comers competing throughout the series.
Sponsoring the series for the first time in 2010 Rush Surf couldn’t be happier to support elite level junior surfing in Queensland.
“As the official sponsors of the Queensland State Junior Surfing Series we are proud to support the development of young surfers and their future careers,” said Wade James of Rush Surf Managing Director and Founder.
Rush Surf Marketing Manager Andrew Brooks added “Our surf stores are the perfect vehicle to promote such an event to junior surfers and the crew at Rush are excited to be involved in this series."
Meanwhile, Surfing Queensland Chief Executive Officer Scott Gillies highlighted the important development pathway that Queensland’s junior surfing titles provide to the state’s budding surf stars.
“Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson and Bede Durbidge are just a few of the high profile athletes to compete in this series before going on to forge professional surfing careers as elite level athletes,” said Gillies.
“The Queensland State Junior Titles is a key stepping stone in Surfing Queensland’s proven development pathway, which continues to set the benchmark for producing world-class competitors,” he said.
This sentiment was reinforced by 2009’s U/18 Boys Queensland State Junior champion and runner-up Jack Freestone and Thomas Woods.
2010 saw Freestone win his maiden ASP Australasia Pro Junior competition and Woods qualify for the Quiksilver Pro trials via the highly competitive Queensland Championship Circuit.
The 2010 Rush Surf Queensland State Junior Titles is proudly supported by Rush Surf, WAECO, Australia's Surfing Life, Red Bull and Surfing Queensland.
